Social Emotional Skills
  • Behavior Management- is the use of techniques to change or eliminate unwanted behavior and to encourage desirable behavior e.g. Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement and Token Economy System.

  • Self-Regulatory- is the ability to control natural impulses or the ability to act in your long-term best interest, It is what allows us to feel one way but act another e.g. timed limited games, multi-step instructional activities.

  • Self Esteem Building- is increasing confidence about the opinions, values and capabilities you have about oneself by understanding negative core beliefs derived from past experiences, then focusing on personal strengths and accomplishment through self-awareness e.g.Set Aside Perfection and Grab a Hold of Accomplishments, positive affirmations, and nourishing mantras.

  • Coping Strategies- is used to minimize or tolerate stress or conflict e.g. 5 Senses countdown for anger control, journaling or patterned drawing for anxiety.

  • Mindfulness/Self-Awareness- is the ability to pay attention to yourself including what you are thinking, feeling, in that moment, e.g. Grounding techniques or Meditation.

  • Communicative Skills- is what allows you to understand and be understood by others by effectively communicating ideas to others, actively listening in conversations, giving and receiving critical feedback, e.g. assertiveness, non- verbal body cues.

  • Problem Solving/ Decision Making- is critically thinking through details of a problem to reach a solution, e.g. identify the problem,develop multiple solutions, identify the pros and cons then pick a solution.
